CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team played Mars Hill University (4-5-1, 3-2-1) to a 1-0 loss tonight at Dickson Field. The Royals are now 4-4-4 overall and 1-3-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Despite Queens outshooting the Lions, 18-6, the Royals would just put five shots on goal to Mars Hill's two. Mars Hill's game-winner would come with one minute left to play when the Lions' Joakim Lien slotted a shot past Royals goalkeeper,
Sergio Lemus,
Prior to the Lions' goal, Queens saw a solid goal scoring opportunity come in the second half when
Michael James took a strike that hit off of the post. Their next opportunity came when
Michael Hornsby's shot hit off of the crossbar.
In the closing seconds of play,
Edmundo Robinson gave Queens one last chance to send the game into overtime with a shot that was saved by Lions goalkeeper Ben Lucas.
Robinson led the Royals with five shots, two on goal, while Juan Carlos Carillo added three shots.
The Royals are on the road Saturday, October 14 when they travel to Newberry College for a match at 3:30 p.m.
