SALISBURY, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team played Catawba College (1-6-1, 1-2-1) to a 1-1 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) tie tonight. The Royals now sit at 4-3-4 overall and 1-2-3 in the SAC.
The first goal of the game, the Royals lone goal, came in the second half of play from
Keegan Burton in the 49th minute. Catawba followed with a goal in the 66th minute when Philipp Hollenhorst scored a header. Sam Henneberg assisted on the play.
Both goalkeepers,
Sergio Lemus of Queens and Evan Jeckells of Catawba, made huge plays for their squads in the closing minutes of regulation as both recorded saves to force the game into overtime. The two would continue their battle in overtime keeping the game knotted after 110 minutes of action.
Michael Hornsby led the Royals with two shots on goal. He was followed by Burton, Juan Carlos Carillo,
Kieran Gore, and
Pedro Oliveira who each had one. Lemus totaled seven saves in goal.
The Royals return home on Saturday, October 7 to face Mars Hill University in a SAC matchup set for 7:30 p.m. at Dickson Field. Queens fell in its match with the Lions during the 2016 season by a score of 2-1.
