No. 3 Queens Pulls Out Overtime Road Win at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The third-ranked Royals pulled out an overtime win on the road this evening, defeating Anderson University 94-92. The win gives the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team the season series sweep, while also helping the Royals improve to 17-1 on the year and 11-1 in the league. The Trojans fall to 7-11 on the year and 5-7 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Jalin Alexander scored the Royals' two go ahead points at the foul line with six seconds on the clock to secure today's win for Queens. Alexander finished with a new season-high 31 points after connecting on 10-of-16 shots. Daniel Carr added a career-high 16 points after making his second start of the year with starting point guard Ike Agusi sitting out with an injury. Daniel Camps also contributed 16 points, shooting six-of-nine from the floor. He also pulled down six rebounds. Mike Davis added nine points, four rebounds and four assists, while Todd Withers totaled eight points and four rebounds.

It seemed as if the Royals were on their way to putting the Trojans away in the opening half after building a 23-9 lead at the midway point. However, Anderson's offense would come alive late in the period as the Trojans slowly ate away at Queens' lead. The Royals' 14-point margin had shrunk to just two points, 42-40, when the horn sounded and the teams headed to their locker rooms.

Alexander led Queens at the break with 12 points after scoring eight points during the Royals 12-3 run to begin today's game.

The Royals opened the second half with a 10-6 spurt to lead 54-46 at 14:06, but Anderson's squad, who shot 61.5-percent in the period, would not go away. A jumper from Shawn Benard tied the game at 60-60 at 9:42, and a lay-up from Jeremy Bouton would give the Trojans a 62-60 lead just 18 seconds later. Anderson saw their largest lead of the night when Christian Jeffords was fouled shooting a triple and knocked down all three shots from the charity stripe. He put Anderson ahead 80-73 with 3:16 to play. Queens responded closing regulation with an 11-4 run to knot the game at 84-84 when the horn sounded. Camps scored the game-tying bucket on a lay-in.

Alexander gave the Royals an 88-86 lead in overtime after knocking down a jumper at 1:59. Following his bucket, Anderson tied the game up twice, the last coming when a three-pointer from Randall Shaw equalized things at 92-92 with 34 seconds to play. Alexander was then fouled during Queens' next offensive possession and sent to the line, where he secured the victory for the Royals.

Queens shot 50.8-percent from the floor and 42.1-percent from the three in tonight's win, while Anderson shot 53.6-percent from the floor and 45.8-percent from the three. The Royals outscored the Trojans, 42-24, in the paint, and converted Anderson's 17 turnovers into 23 points.

Shaw finished with 27 points for Anderson, while Benard added 19 points. Jeffords scored 15 points, and Bouton contributed 11 points.

Queens will remain on the road for their next game, which will be at Newberry College on Wednesday, January 25. The Royals defeated the Wolves 104-86 back in November, posting their second highest point total in a single game this season.  Davis led the Royals in the win with a season-high 29 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
