GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team picked up their first loss of the 2016 season tonight on the road at Limestone College, falling 2-1 to the Saints. The Royals now sit even at 1-1 on the year, while Limestone improves to 2-0.
Senior forward
Ryan Ejezie scored the Royals' single goal of the night in the 65
th minute, bending a shot around the Limestone defense inside the far post for the score. The goal brought Queens, who had been trailing by two goals since the 54
th, to within one of the Saints. However, the Royals would be unable to put another shot on frame before the final horn sounded. Senior
Ryan Kawczynski earned the assist on Ejezie's goal.
Queens was outshot 10-9 this evening as the Saints put nine shots on goal to the Royals' three. Lemus completed the game with five saves, while Greg Purvis of Limestone took the win in goal after totaling two saves.
Limestone grabbed a 1-0 lead early in tonight's match when Gui Machado received a ball played over the Royals' defense and went one on one with Queens goalkeeper
Sergio Lemus. The goal would come in the 13
th minute of play. The Saints' second goal came in the 54
th minute from Corentin Guegan on a header off of a corner kick.
Queens is back in action on Wednesday, September 7 in Dahlonega, Ga., against the University of North Georgia. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
