Queens Tops Carson-Newman

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team topped the Eagles of Carson-Newman on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Queens found two goals in the match to grab the game and move to a 5-3 overall record and a 2-2 South Atlantic Conference record. Carson-Newman netted a goal in the match but fell to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

Queens started the first half strong, scoring a goal 11 minutes into play. Alberto Morales collected a through ball from Daniel Faler before taking on the keeper for the score. Carson-Newman responded with a couple of hard shots inside the box but the Queens defense was able to keep the net clear as the game headed into the 20th minute. Play stayed even until the 36th minute when Carson-Newman earned a free kick outside the box. Tom Read stepped up for the Eagles to put a shot in the back of the net and even the match.

Both teams traded shots in the opening minutes of the second half but another through ball gave the Royals a point up on the scoreboard. Morales sent a long ball through the back line for Ryan Ejezie to run on to. Ejezie's shot bounced back at him to deflect into the net for the go-ahead point the match. Carson-Newman had chances in the late moments of the match but the Queens defense held strong to close out the game.

Ejezie led the team with five shots with four landing on target. Goal keeper, Sergio Lemus tallied eight saves to keep the Royals ahead in the match.

Reid led the Eagles with eight shots, five of which were on target. Joe Boyd grabbed five saves.

Queens will take the field on Wednesday, September 28th as they host USC-Aiken for a 7:30 p.m., match.
