CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte improved to 3-1 on the year in men's soccer this evening after defeating Barton College of Conference Carolinas by a score of 3-1. The Bulldogs drop to 2-2 with the loss.
After having three shots turned away by Barton's keeper in the early minutes, the Royals would find their chance to score in the 22
nd minute of action. A shot by senior midfielder
Corey Brown was blocked in the box by the hands of one of Barton's players resulting in a penalty kick for Queens.
Oemer Okyar would step up to take the shot, putting the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead that the Royals took into the halftime break.
Barton's Rodrigo Neves tied the game up in the second half with a left footed volley that found the inside of the far post in the 59
th minute. However, Queens'
Liam Doyle, a sophomore midfielder, had an answer in the 67
th with a shot from nearly 30 yards out that he drilled into the back of the net to return the lead to the Royals.
An insurance goal would then come in the 79
th from
Ryan Ejezie on a penalty kick after the senior forward was fouled in the box.
Queens outshot Barton 23-6 this evening, putting 10 shots on frame to the Bulldogs' two shots on goal.
Sergio Lemus took the win in goal after totaling one save. Barton's Jens Madsen Hordvik recorded seven saves in the loss.
The Royals will jump into South Atlantic Conference play next, traveling to Greenville, Tenn., to face Tusculum College on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
