Charlotte, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team battle on April 17, 2016, in a match that went back-and-forth with Newberry College. The Royals would gain the one court victory to see a match score of 5-4 against the Wolves as the team concluded the regular season. Queens would move to 11-3 overall and 9-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. Newberry fell to 18-5 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
Starting the day, Queens found two points in doubles play as
Ole-Jacob Meum and
Zachary Williams tabbed the first point on the board with an 8-3 score on court three.
Per-Erik Soler and
Andor Vas soon followed with an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot to put the team ahead coming out of paired play.
Vas brought his momentum from doubles play into his singles competition as he quickly found a 6-4, 6-3 score on court two. Although the next point would go to Newberry, Queens moved a step closer in the match as Soler worked for a 7-5, 7-5 score on court one.
Refusing to yield, Newberry grabbed court four to hang just a court off the Royals at 4-3. However,
Jordan Owens stepped up at the No. 5 spot to rally for a 6-4, 6-3 score and claim the day for Queens.
Queens will now turn its focus to the SAC Tournament at Brevard College. Competition will begin on April 22
nd.
