CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championships get underway this weekend with the regional competition, and the No. 22 Queens University of Charlotte Royals (24-6) are looking to make a run.

The Royals, seeded fourth in the southeast region, will open tournament play against the fifth seeded Columbus State University Cougars (21-7) of the Peach Belt Conference. The Cougars took the PBC Regular Season Title this year after posting a 14-5 league record. They fell in the semifinal round of their conference tournament to Augusta State by a score of 77-73, putting their post-season fate in the hands of the selection committee.

Cam Baker led the Cougars this season averaging 20.5 points per game this season, and earning PBC All-Conference First Team honors. Brent Jackson is averaging 16.6 points per game, and earned a spot on the second team. Head Coach Robert Moore was named Co-Coach of the Year.

After completing the regular season second in the SAC behind No. 1 Lincoln Memorial University with a 17-5 league record, Queens fell in the semifinal round of their conference tournament as well, losing 77-68 to Wingate University.

Senior guard
Rob Lewis led the Royals this season averaging 18.2 points per game, and earned a spot on the SAC All-Conference First Team. Also grabbing a spot on the first team was senior forward
Sean Morgan who is averaging 17.4 points per game. Senior guard
Marquis Rankin was named to the honorable mention team after averaging 12.4 points per game.

Queens' scoring offense ranks 16
th in the nation putting up an average of 87 points per game compared to Columbus State who is right behind them averaging 86. Both teams are shooting around 50 percent from the floor as well this season.

This will be the Royals' ninth NCAA appearance. It is their fourth under the leadership of Head Coach
Bart Lundy.
