Hickory, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team gained an 8-1 victory against Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, February 26, 2016. The win secured the team an overall record of 4-1 as well as their second match in conference for a perfect 2-0 start. The Bears would drop to a 4-4 record in addition to moving to 1-1 in conference play.

Queens took all three doubles courts securing tough matchups to start the day with a 3-0 score. Per-Erik Soler and Andor Vas, ranked 14^th nationally as a doubles pair, rallied in the No. 1 spot against Patrick Bauer and Shane O'Dea for an 8-5 game. In a tight battle, Jules Athalis and Giovanni Setti took court two with a 9-7 score against Tomas Hons and Matthew Ledford. Jordan Owens and Will Roberson rounded out the doubles play taking an 8-3 match against Filip Dobrosavljevic and Alex Crespo Sanchez.

In spite of close play in the singles matches, Queens found five more points to add to the board. On the second and fourth court, respectively, Athalis went 6-2, 6-1 against Hons while Setti went 6-3, 7-5 against Alex Crespo Sanchez to both take their courts in two sets. For the No. 3 singles, Vas, won over O'Dea with 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 score through a three set game. Owens also saw three sets on court five going 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 for the win. Ole-Jacob Meum put an end on the match seeing  a 10-1 tiebreak on the last set against Ledford grabbing 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(10-1) win.

The Royals will host their first home match of the year against Anderson University on Sunday February 28. The match will be featured at Freedom Park starting at 1 p.m.
