Box ScoreBrevard, N.C.- The No. 46 ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team found an 8-1 win over the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday, February 20, 2016. The Royals would advance to an overall record of 3-1 as they claimed their first conference victory. Brevard would fall to 0-4 on the season.
"We need the match play," said Head Coach
Billy Boykin. "We're learning from every match. I thought the guys played hard today."
Queens jumped out to an early lead defeating Brevard on two doubles courts.
Andor Vas and
Zachary Williams went 8-2 against Chris Plasa and Tim Hengst for the No. 2 doubles point.
Jules Athalis and
Giovanni Setti followed close behind grabbing the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 victory.
Heading into the singles matches,
Will Roberson was the first player to finish as he saw a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 win on court five against Don Taylor. Roberson would claim the match point with the addition to the withdrawl on court six.
Athalis finished next for the Royals capping his match at 6-2, 6-2 win over Tom Mittring on court two.
Ole-Jacob Meum and
Jordan Owens found the team's remaining two points. Meum went 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles spot while Owens went 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the No. 3 spot.
Queens will travel to Pfeiffer University tomorrow, meeting the Falcons in a 1 p.m., match.
