Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The sixth ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (23-3, 17-3 SAC) had a tough time finding the bottom of the net against the visiting fourth ranked Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (24-2, 20-0 SAC) as they shot only 28.6 percent in the game as they fell by the score of 92-66 on Saturday, February 20, 2016.
The Royals were 16-of-56 from the field in the game and shot only 15.4 percent from three-point range. Lincoln Memorial outrebounded Queens 46-to-34 and scored 42 of their points down in the paint.
Sean Morgan led the Royals on offense as he scored 14 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and 8-of-13 shooting from the free throw line. The only other Royal to score double digits in the game was
Jared Hendryx who added 12 points off of the bench.
Lincoln Memorial started the game fast as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead following a three pointer by Luquon Choice with 16:11 on the clock in the first half. With 9:44 remaining in the first half, the Royals' Hendryx would throw down a dunk to make the score 28-10 in favor of Railsplitters. Minutes later,
Rob Lewis would hit a three pointer to cut the lead down to 16 points, 35-19, with 5:49 remaining in the first half. Lincoln Memorial closed the half on a 12-5 run capped by a Dorian Pinson layup to give the Railsplitters a 47-24 lead over the Royals at the half.
After allowing the Railsplitters to score the first two buckets of the second half, the Royals would go on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 54-32 with 15:45 remaining on the clock. Lincoln Memorial would answer the Royals run and break open a 30-point, 75-45 lead as Jalen Steele hit a three pointer with 7:37 left in the game. Queens would continue to work hard as Morgan's free throws would make the score 80-52 with just over five minutes to go in the game. Unfortunately that would be as close as the Royals would get to Lincoln Memorial as the Railsplitters knocked off the sixth ranked Royals, 92-66.
Lincoln Memorial was led by Gerel Simmons, who scored 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. Two other Railsplitters scored in double digits as Luquon Choice added 15 and Dorian Pinson put in 10 points in the game.
Queens will play host to Lenoir-Rhyne University in their next game, on Wednesday, February 24th at 8:00 p.m.
