BREVARD, N.C.- Â The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team found their first win of the season, traveling on the road to Brevard College on Wednesday, December 07, 2016. Queens outscored the Tornados in three out of the four quarters for the 50-45 victory, moving the team to a 1-7 overall record and a 1-2 South Atlantic Conference record. Brevard dropped to 4-3 on the year and 1-3 in SAC play.

The Royals were led by
Sarah Henson who tallied 17 points to top the floor in addition to adding six rebounds.
McKell Oliverio followed putting up 10 points while
Carmen Richardson led the team in rebounds for a career high of 10.

Madison Lenox tallied a double-double for Brevard leading the team in both rebounds and points with 11 in each category. Jade Napier added another nine points to the team's night. Â

Although a slow start that resulted in a 12-6 first quarter deficit, Queens battled back to outscore Brevard 8-7 in the second quarter. The Royals started the quarter with a six point run, with the tying shot coming from Richardson at the 6:50 mark for a 12-12 game. Oliverio followed with a basket for the team's first lead of the night. With under a minute to play in the half, the Tornados found back-to-back baskets to jump back out to a four point gap, heading into the break with a 19-14 lead.

Oliverio made the first basket coming out of the break to bring the game back to one position, 19-16. Moments later
Melissa Blatnik followed to move the team within one point, 19-18. As both teams found strong defensive plays, Henson broke a two minute dry spell on the floor, giving Queens the lead and momentum at 22-21. The Royals continued to hit shots heading into the fourth quarter with a two point gap, 28-26, after outshooting the home team 14-7 in the quarter. Â

With just one quarter remaining in the game, Queens came out with strength finding baskets from Henson, and Richardson early distancing themselves from the Tornados, 32-26. As the clocked counted down, Brevard saw a slow build, coming within one point of the Royals with just 3:27 to play; however, two made free-throws from
Mendy McNeese kept the team ahead moving them back to a three point gap at 37-34. Queens was unable to hold onto the lead as Brevard overtook the scoreboard with a layup from Lenox with just 2:21 left to play. Running out of time, Queens found momentum off a shot from distance by McNeese giving the Royals back the lead. Queens would outscore the Tornado 13-7 in the last two minutes of the game to take the win.

The Royals will continue their schedule on the road this Saturday at Carson-Newman. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
