Queens Falls at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell on the road to Carson-Newman on Saturday, December 10, 2016. The Eagles secured the win with a 95-67 score to move to 5-4 overall record and 2-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Royals fell to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
 
Despite the loss, the Royals led in the second half of the game, putting up 20 points in both quarters.  McKell Oliverio and Mendy McNeese led the team with 22 points apiece. Sarah Henson added an additional 16 points to help the Royals.
 
Katie Stubblefield was the point leader for the Eagles with 16 during the game. Both Briana Smith and Ashton Wykle equaled at 11 points for the second highest total on the team.
 
The game started with a 14-2 run by Carson-Newman before Queens could find their rhythm. The Eagles continued to control the first half, creating a 30 point gap at 48-18. Despite finding baskets at the end of the second quarter, Queens was left trailing 57-25 heading into the break.
 
The Royals managed to bring the score back under 30 points, hitting shots early in the third quarter. A basket by Kelli Gottry moved the team even closer with a 61-35 score, to hang within 26 points of the Eagles. However, Carson-Newman pushed the score back out for their largest lead in the game at 76-42. Queens continued to battle but the team was unable to recover, falling in the road game.
 
The Royals will play at home on Monday, December 12, against Coker College. The game will tip-off at 6 p.m.
