CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's swim team topped Catawba College on Saturday, December 17, 2016, defeating the Indians in the meet with a 133-75 score. The Royals would claim 14 first place swims over the course of the meet.  
 
"I though the athletes performed well after just finishing finals on Friday," said Head Swim Coach Jeff Dugdale. "I look forward to seeing them back in January as we build towards conference."  
 
With a first place swim to start the day, Queens saw Hannah Peiffer, Shelly Prayson, Alexandra Marshall, and Kyrie Dobson, respectively, touch the wall with a 3:56.46. The four claimed first in the event with three seconds of separation.
 
Sarah Reamy and Kathryn Johnston tallied back-to-back finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle. Reamy touched the wall in first place with a time of 10:31.63. Johnston followed clocking a 10:42.42 for second place.
 
In the 200 yard freestyle, McKenzie Stevens swam a 1:53.88 for first place. Hannah Craig and Shane Knight powered to the wall right behind Stevens, claiming second and third place, respectively. Craig clocked a 1:59.33 in the event as Knight clocked a 2:02.54.
 
Prayson tabbed the 100 yard backstroke for the Royals as she reached the wall with a time of 59.94. Kristina Kosloski swam a 1:01.84 for second place while Georgia Dacruz reached the wall in third place with a time of 1:02.14. Olivia Gutknecht earned a time of 1:03.70 for fourth.
 
The 100 yard breaststroke saw Dasha Talanova secure the top swim. She would touch with a time of 1:07.45 for her first place swim.
 
Linda Baron found herself a first place swim, claiming the 200 yard butterfly. She would reach the wall with a time of 2:12.69 for the first place touch.
 
Shane Knight found an individual first place swim in the 100 yard freestyle, taking the event with a 54.52. Craig took second with a time of 54.72.
 
It was another back-to-back finish for the Royals who found Talanova with the top swim in the 200 yard breaststroke as Prayson closed the gap for second place in the event. Talanova touched with a time of 2:25.28 for the first place swim. Prayson tabbed a time of 2:27.89 for second.  
 
The team also saw three first place finishes come from uncontested events as Dobson touched the wall with a 24.10 for the 50 yard freestyle, Peiffer clocked a time of 2:09.65 to lead the group in the 200 yard backstroke, and Stevens claimed the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.35.
 
Marshall's swim in the 100 yard butterfly earned her a first place as she led the event with a 59.26. She was followed by Dobson who clocked a 1:00.42 for second place.
 
Josefina Lorda-Taylor finished the individual events for the Royals, claiming the 400 individual medley with a 4:33.14. Dacruz followed in second place with a 4:44.86.
 
The day concluded with a first place relay swim from Marshall, Dobson, Kosloski, Prayson, respectively. The team took a time of 1:37.73 to end the meet.
 
The Royals will continue their season on January 14 as they head to Hickory, N.C., to face Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone at 11 a.m.
