ROCK HILL, S.C. – In one of the team's best overall seasons, the Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team will host a South Atlantic Conference quarterfinal matchup against Anderson University on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 7 p.m. The Royals enter the tournament as the fourth overall seed with a 16-6 record, tying Newberry who took the tiebreaker to land as the No. 3 seed. Anderson enters as fifth in the conference going 15-7 in league play.
The Royals and Trojans split the regular season with each team taking wins on their respective courts. Queens tabbed a 3-1 victory over Anderson back in October but suffered a loss this weekend falling on the road to the Trojans 3-1. The match may show a slight favor to the Royals, however, as the team holds a 13-3 record at home while Anderson is 7-5 on the road.
Statistically, both teams have posted similar numbers as
Meredith Jones leads the conference in kills per set with 3.71 and in total kills with 386. Anderson's Marissa Mitter tallied 375 kills this season to rank second overall in the conference for the category. In service aces per set, Emily Conlin ranks first overall with an average of .44 while
Mallory Swarts falls just shy in second place with a .42 average.
As a team, Queens ranks second in the conference in blocks per set with 2.22 and third in the conference in service aces with 175 as a team. Anderson holds as the third best team in the league for hitting percentage with a .207 average. They also rank second in the conference for total service aces with 179.
This will be the first time that the team has hosted a quarterfinal match since entering the South Atlantic Conference in 2013.
The match will cost $2 for students with college ID's and $5 for adults.
