Royals Shock Bulldogs in Home Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's swimming team, ranked No. 2 in the first CSCAA Poll of the season, hit the pool today to take on No. 9 Wingate University in a rematch of between the first and second place finishers at the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Swimming Championships. The Royals were victorious over the Bulldogs winning all but one event to claim a 141-64 home win.

"I am so proud of our Royals," said Queens Head Coach Jeff Dugdale. "Our women have embraced what it means to be part of this Royal family. Today was an excellent barometer for things to come at the NCAA and conference level." 
 
Setting the tone, Queens' 200 yard medley began the day grabbing first place with NCAA B standard time. The team made up of Hannah Peiffer, Shelly Prayson, Alexandra Marshall and Kyrie Dobson clocked a time of 1:43.25. Queens' third place team made up of Kristina Kosloski, Dasha Talanova, Mary Claire Beaver and Shane Knight took third place with an NCAA B cut time of 1:46.78.
 
Swimming in their individual events, the Royals did not skip a beat as distance swimmer Sarah Reamy grabbed a first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:28.62. Nikki Johnston took second in the event in 10:35.10.
 
In the 500 yard freestyle the Royals took the top three finishes with Josephina Lorda in first in 5:01.77. McKenzie Stevens was second in 5:02.48, and Reamy was third in 5:11.59. Both Lorda and Stevens' times were NCAA B cuts. Lorda also beat the previous set pool record in the 200 yard individual medley taking second in 2:06.14. Alexis Divelbiss of Wingate clocked a time of 2:05.94 to take first and claim the pool record.
 
Stevens also took a win in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:51.46 to finish ahead of Linda Baron who clocked in at 1:55.08. Prayson grabbed the win in the 100 yard freestyle, tapping the wall in 51.96 ahead of Dobson's time of 51.99. Both times met the NCAA B standard.
 
Swimming in the 50 free was Marshall who took first in 24 seconds flat, meeting the NCAA B cut.
 
In the 100 yard butterfly, Queens showed their strength again taking the top three finishes. Marshall was first in 57.06 and Hannah Peiffer followed with a time of 57.75. Georgia DeCruz took third in 57.85. Both Marshall and Peiffer's times met the NCAA B standard. Peiffer also grabbed a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with an NCAA B standard time of 56.40.
 
Additionally, Dasha Talanova was able to take first place in the 100 yard backstroke in an NCAA B standard time of 1:03.91.
 
Queens' 400 yard freestyle relay team closed the day in high fashion for the Royals setting a new pool record and meeting the NCAA B standard. Stevens, Dobson, Lorda and Shane Knight teamed up to swim in the 400 yard freestyle relay clocking a time of 3:30.51.
 
Queens will be back at home on Saturday, November 5 when they host Gardner Webb and Richmond in a tri-meet.
