Waterfield Scores in Shootout to Lift Royals Past Seton Hill

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team picked up its first road win of the season today, defeating Seton Hill University 2-1 in a shootout. The Royals improve to 5-5 on the year with the win, while Seton Hill drops to 2-10.

Queens struck first in today's game with a goal from sophomore midfielder Mazvita Mtisi in the 15th minute. Mtisi would intercept a pass and dribble up the field for the score to put her team ahead 1-0. Seton Hill's Ashley Curnow responded in the 23rd, and the score would remain tied at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation.

Both teams put two shots each on goal in the first overtime period but neither goalkeeper on either end of the field allowed the ball to find the back of the net. The same happened in the second overtime period with Lauren Wolfgang putting the final shot on frame of the game in the 93rd minute, but it would be turned away forcing a shootout.

After the first four players on each team had their shots turned away in the shootout, Queens' Sta'sha Waterfield stepped up big finding the back of the net. The Griffins had one last chance to match Waterfield's score, but Queens' Miranda Childers came up huge with the save to help secure the victory.

Queens outshot Seton Hill 25-19 today, putting 17 shots on goal to the Griffins' 10 shots on frame. Mazvita led the Royals with seven shots on goal after taking a total of nine shots. Childers took the win in the cage after totaling eight saves. Jane Eberhardt of Seton Hill recorded 14 saves in the loss.

Queens will return home on Wednesday, October 19 to host Newberry College at 4 p.m. The Royals fell 3-2 in double overtime with the Wolves on October 4.
