HARROGATE, Tenn.- The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team suffered a three set loss on the road against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, October 01, 2016. The 25-23, 25-14, 25-20 loss dropped the Royals to 9-4 overall and 6-2 within the South Atlantic Conference. The Railsplitters tabbed their 11
th win of the year to move to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
Queens held an 11-6 lead early in the first set but LMU took five unanswered to force a Royals timeout. Momentum shifted after another long Railsplitter run that had Queens trailing at 17-15. Continuing to battle, Queens rallied to stay within distance of Lincoln Memorial; however, despite a service ace from
Rebecca Cochran and a kill from
Alex Thompson, LMU grabbed the first set.
After a long first game, Queens stayed even through the opening of set two. With the help of their blockers, Lincoln Memorial managed to rattle the Royals taking seven points in a row to move ahead 16-7. Queens regained composure but they would not be able to close the gap.
Queens trailed by just one point at 9-8 as the team looked to stay alive in the match. Fighting, a 3-0 run tied the game at 14-14 giving Queens some momentum. The two teams remained tight but three kills closed the match in favor of the Railsplitters.
Meredith Jones led the team in kills with 13.
Sydney Kunz tabbed two blocks, 28 assists and nine digs in the match.
Megan Mancini would lead in digs with 16.
The Railsplitters looked to Kiera Holland who totaled 12 kills for the team. Abby Cash held a double-double at the conclusion of three sets with 29 assists and 21 digs.
Queens will return home on Friday, October 7
th for a conference match against Newberry. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
