Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-13, 0-9 SAC) had a tough shooting night as they fell to Wingate University (10-5, 7-4 SAC) 77-29 on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
 
The Royals were only able to make 23.8 percent of their baskets in the game as they went 10-of-42 from the field. Queens did make 6-of-8 free throws in the game and were only out rebounded by the Bulldogs by a margin of five, 32-27. Another important team stat in the game was that the Royals were forced into 28 turnovers, leading to 35 points for Wingate.
 
Carmen Richardson was the Royals leading scorer on the night as she added eight points. Maggie Stewart was also an important player for Queens as she added five points, three assists, and nine rebounds (seven of which came on offense).
 
To start the game, both teams were locked into battle as Stewart's jumper tied the game at 6-6 with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter. A couple of minutes later, Wingate would go on a 10-3 run to take a 22-12 lead and begin to separate themselves from the Royals with 5:54 remaining in the first half. Wingate closed out a dominant second quarter as Alex Tomlinson's basket gave the Bulldogs a 34-17 lead at the half.
 
Wingate was able to shut down the Royals in the third quarter, only allowing them to score five points in the quarter, three of which came from Stewart. Courtney Robinson's free throws at the end of the quarter gave the Bulldogs a 60-22 lead going into the last period of the game. Tyra Shelton made a jumper with 5:38 left in the game to give the Royals their 27th point of the game, but the Bulldogs were just too strong on the evening as they won the game 77-29.
 
Queens will look to rebound in their next game as they welcome the 11th ranked Anderson University Trojans to the Levine Center on Saturday, January 23, 2016 with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
