Jefferson Nets Goal for Queens Victory

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team traveled to take on Lees-McRae College this evening in nonconference play, defeating the Bobcats 1-0 to improve to 1-1 on the year. The win was the first of the season for the Royals. Lees-McRae falls to 0-2.

Following a scoreless first half that saw 16 total combined shots from the two teams, Queens' Alana Jefferson was able to put the Royals on the board in the 55th minute of action. Sophomore defender Jasmin Singh would be the one to find the sophomore midfielder open at the top of the box, where she was able to deliver a shot that beat Bobcats keeper, Jessica Bunce, high.

Queens' strong back line, which returned all of its core members, then held off the Bobcats' attack to help insure the win for the Royals.

The Royals outshot the Bobcats 15-12, while also edging Lees-McRae 4-3 in corner kicks. Tori Danchak took the win in goal after totaling three saves, while Bunce finished play with two saves.

The Royals are back at home on Tuesday, September 8 against UNC-Pembroke at 5 p.m.
