Newberry, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis (2-0, 1-0 SAC) overcame the Newberry Wolves (2-1, 0-1 SAC) in a 8-1 win on Saturday, February 7, 2015, as the Royals only dropped a doubles match for the day.
"I have been pleased with the chemistry displayed so far amongst the squads," said Head Coach
Brett Karpman. "I think we have improved some of our processes in the fall that are paying off now. Today was a solid win against a very fiery Newberry and I expect the players to come out firing tomorrow against another great program."
Queens started the day grabbing two points in the double match-ups as
Jules Athalis and
Will Roberson sought an 8-2 win in the No. 2 spot against Richard Zeh and Carlos Nicolopulos and
Ole-Jacob Meum and
Zachary Williams took hold of an 8-5 victory of the No. 3 doubles against Angel Pizzaro and Jordan Monosky.
The Royals took a clean sweep in the singles taking all six courts.
Per-Erik Soler started with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 1 singles spot. Athalis battled to overcome Fernando Tous in three sets taking the ten point tie-break 10-5. Roberson smoothly gathered a 6-2, 6-1 win on court 3 against Carlos Nicolopulos as Williams took No. 6 singles with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win. Vas and
Sean Harris each took an 8-4 win for the No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectfully, to finish the day.
Queens heads to USC-Aiken tomorrow for their 1 p.m. matchup against 0-2 Pacers.
