Men’s basketball falls to Eagles on Senior Night

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team celebrated Senior Night this evening in Curry Arena against the Eagles of Carson-Newman College. The Royals (14-12) fell 87-62 to the Eagles bringing their South Atlantic Conference record to 11-9. Queens now sits tied in fifth place with Catawba College, while the Eagles (14-12) improved to 12-8 in the league to tie for fourth.
 
Rob Lewis led the Royals with 24 points, and was the lone member of Queens' team to reach double figures in scoring. Senior Griffin Shaw totaled nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the three, while senior Trey Ervin totaled six points and four rebounds.
 
Queens found themselves in a hole early when the Eagles started the game with a 19-7 run forcing an early timeout by the home team. The Royals, unable to buy a bucket, would trail by as much as 18 points in the period after shooting just 32.1 percent from the floor. Carson-Newman would finish the half with a 60 percent clip to lead 44-26 at the break.
 
The Royals improved their shot percentage in the second half to 42.9 percent, but the Eagles continued their hot shooting making it hard for Queens to get back into the game. At the end of play, Carson-Newman had outscored the Royals 56-18, and converted Queens 17 turnovers into 28 points. Additionally, Queens was outrebounded 37-26.
 
Carson-Newman was led by Carson Brooks who totaled 28 points after scoring 22 first half points. Sawyer Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Mason Bates scored 11 points. Josh Rogers added 10 points.
 
Queens will wrap the regular season on the road traveling to Catawba College first on Wednesday. The Royals won the first game of the home-and-home series by a score of 77-75. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
