Royals Struggle To Find Offense In Loss To Golden Bulls

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Women's basketball team dropped to 2-4 on the season as they fell to Johnson C. Smith 69-44 on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in the Levine Center.
 
The Royals were led by Carmen Richardson as she scored 17 points on 6-of-21 shooting in the game. McKell Oliverio was second on the team in scoring as she added 14 points for the Royals. Oliverio also had a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Queens would shoot 26.2 percent from the field including 2-of-9 from three-point range, as they couldn't find their shooting stroke. Johnson C. Smith would outrebound the Royals 45-to-35 but they would struggle from the charity stripe as they could only connect on 48.3 percent of their free throws.
 
The Royals and Golden Bulls would keep the score close to start the game, as the Royals held an 11-10 lead in the first quarter following a layup by Melissa Blatnik with 2:12 remaining. Johnson C. Smith would then go on a 10-2 run that extended through the second quarter to give the Golden Bulls a 20-13 lead with 8:42 remaining in the half. Queens would battle to cut into the lead, but Johnson C. Smith would still hold a seven point lead as Richardson hit one of two free throws to make the score 27-20 with 3:28 remaining in the half. The Golden Bulls went on their second large run of the game as they closed the half on an 8-2 run to give them a 35-22 lead going into the third quarter.
 
Queens' tough shooting night would continue as they scored only nine points in the third quarter, five of which were scored by Oliverio. The Golden Bulls would hold a 55-31 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Royals would go on a 5-2 run to end the game, but Johnson C. Smith's lead was too large as Queens ultimately fell by the score of 69-33.
 
A'Diyah Ussery led Johnson C. Smith in scoring as she accounted for 16 points in the game. Krista White was second on the team in scoring as she added 14 points as well as five rebounds.
 
The Royals return to action on Saturday, December 5 as they travel to take on Anderson University at 2:00 p.m.
