Queens Ends Season in Quarterfinals against Lenoir-Rhyne

Box Score Anderson, S.C- The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team's season came to a close on Friday, November 20, 2015, as the Royals fell in three sets to Lenoir-Rhyne in the South Atlantic Conference quarterfinal round. Lenoir-Rhyne took the set 25-19, 25-19, 25-18, moving to a 21-7 overall record while Queens dropped to 13-16 overall .

Jessica Raines was the only Queens player to see double digits, hitting 11 kills in the match. Kelsey McCormick took nine kills against the Bears, in addition to six digs. Megan Mancini led the team in digs grabbing 22 for the night to conclude the year with 1,128 career digs. Sydney Kunz and Annika Jones equaled at 14 assists. Kunz finished the season with 1,593 career assists for the third highest in Queens history.

Brooke Redmond found nine kills for Lenoir-Rhyne while Emily Steele, Ashely Wells, Morgan Bunker, and Brandi Thomas each took seven kills. Steele and Briana Gottberg each took two service aces.

Starting strong, Queens forced Lenoir-Rhyne to overcome a 10-7 Royals lead to tie the game at 11-11, before the Bears finally broke free of a 14-14 score. Lenoir-Rhyne took a 5-0 run as they secured the lead at 18-14. Unwilling to yield, Queens rallied to come within one point with a hit from Alex Thompson but Lenoir-Rhyne would see their way to the victory.

Despite a slight lead, Queens held close to the Bears coming within two, with a hit from Rebecca Cochran, to bring the score to 9-7. Lenoir-Rhyne started to slowly pull away, reaching a six point lead at 18-12; however, three back-to-back points, including a kill from Taylor Henry, brought the game to 18-15. A late 5-1 run put Lenoir-Rhyne in reach of game point but not before Queens took two more points.

A 4-1 run started set 3, putting Queens on the defensive. The Royals would rally seeing kills from Raines and Elizabeth Bialkowski and a block from Katie Schoenrock to even the game at 4-4. Lenoir-Rhyne broke out of an 8-8 tie, forcing Queens to call timeout at 12-8. The run would halt only for a moment as Lenoir-Rhyne took six points off the floor. One last push by Queens saw the team take four points towards the end, but the team would run out of time as Lenoir-Rhyne claimed the match.
