Box Score ST. Augustine, Fla.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team took their first win of the season seeing their way to a 81-77 victory over Flagler on Saturday, November 14, 2015. The Royals grabbed 51 points in the first half helping to secure their victory in the game.
Rob Lewis found 30 points in the game to lead the floor for the night. He would also find three steals and two rebounds.
Kendall Jones found 11 points to take the second highest on the team. Together, the Royals took 36 rebounds and shot 80 percent from the free throw line.
Matt Clark led Flagler with 25 points followed by Nick Grier with 14.
Queens took the first points off the board as
Sean Morgan found a basket followed by a made free-throw to convert the three-point play. He would follow this up with a layup to provide Queens with its first five points of the night. Flagler kept the score close as they came within one point off a layup from Keith Gray to make the score 11-10 for Queens. As the clock counted down, Queens increased its lead seeing its largest margin come with 1:53 left to play. Jones made a free-throw to put the Royals ahead 46-24. The team would go into half with a 51-34 lead.
Queens held control in the start of the second half finding
Daniel Camps for a layup to move the Royals in front by 24 points (64-40). In the last few minutes of the game, Flagler slowly started to chip away at the score coming within three points as Grier made two free-throws. The two teams would tie at 77-77 with 45 seconds left on the board, however Lewis and Jones provided space to bring Queens to an 81 point score.
The Royals will face Armstrong State for the second day of competition at the Peach Belt/South Atlantic Conference Challenge for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
