Box Score Harrogate, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team came from behind in the match to take a 3-2 win over the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Friday, October 23, 2015. Queens found a 14-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 15-10 victory to top the Railsplitters for the second time this season and move to an 8-11 overall record and 6-8 in the South Atlantic Conference. Lincoln Memorial would fall to a 9-11 overall record and 6-8 in the SAC.
The first set fell to the Lincoln Memorial after the Royals came out in the match with a slow start. The Railsplitters found a 25-14 lead to take a 1-0 score in the match. Although the team struggled in the first set, the Royals found their momentum, putting pressure on the home team for the rest of the match.
Set 2 would be a narrow victory for Queens as they evened up the match at a set apiece. The Royals held a 20-14 score over the home team forcing the Railsplitters to use a timeout. Lincoln Memorial took a 6-2 run to charge back into the set as Queens held the lead a 22-20 and called a timeout.
Jessica Raines, who had 12 kills in the match, took the last point to give Queens their set win.
Equal through the opening points, Lincoln Memorial eventually found a 20-15 lead over Queens. Although, the Royals did manage to force the Railsplitters into a timeout at 22-19, Lincoln Memorial would go on to take the set.
Forced into a must win situation, Queens battled to find space at 21-16 over Lincoln Memorial as
Taylor Henry grabbed an ace to force the home team in to a timeout. The team would confidently even the match at two sets apiece as
Katie Schoenrock blasted one to the other side.
Feeling the momentum, Queens jumped out early in the set, finding an 8-4 score as the team switch sides after
Elizabeth Bialkowski and
Meredith Jones combined for a block on Brooke Fleeman's hit. The Railsplitters were unable to gain traction as Queens moved towards game point.
Alex Thompson would end it all finding the last kill of the match.
M. Jones led the team with 16 kills in addition to taking 11 digs.
Annika Jones found three service aces in the match to tie M. Jones at 27 service aces for the season as both sit fifth in the conference for the stat line. A. Jones also tallied 24 assists in the match to place right behind
Sydney Kunz who took 27 assists against Lincoln Memorial.
Megan Mancini led the team in digs grabbing 18 for the night.
Lincoln Memorial was led by Kiera Holland who tallied 16 kills in the match. Abby Cash would have 46 assists while Erica Whiteaker took lead with 17 digs.
Queens will face two opponents on the court tomorrow as the Royals head to Carson-Newman. The Royals face the No. 5 Southeast ranked Eagles at 2 p.m. followed by a match against Columbus State, who ranks 10
th in the Southeast, at 4 p.m.
