Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team was unable to pass the Anderson University Trojans on Friday, October 16, 2015, as Anderson took the match in three sets going 25-22, 25-20, 25-17. Queens moves to a 6-11 overall record and a 4-8 record in the South Atlantic Conference. Anderson moves to 9-9 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
Queens challenged Anderson in all three sets of the match, however the team would be unable to hold off the Trojan offense who hit a .337 for the night.
Queens stepped onto the court strong as the team forced Anderson to use a timeout at 10-5. A few errors, however, allowed the Trojans to take a one point lead at 12-11. Queens held their ground keeping the game close but soon the Royals found themselves trailing by two at 20-18. Queens found two points late in the set to make Anderson use their second timeout, at game point, but Jessica Harris found a kill to claim the game.
Anderson led the opening moments of set 2 with a slight lead as Queens held at just a few points off. A tying run topped by
Kelsey McCormick had Anderson calling a timeout but McCormick gave Queens the point coming out of the break to take the lead. The two teams would tie for the last time at 18-18 as Anderson started a slow climb for the set.
A 10-3 lead by the Trojans burned two Queens' timeouts as the Royals searched for answers. The team did find their answer off a string of kills and a block by McCormick and
Taylor Henry to come back within one (10-9). The Royals did find their lead with
Meredith Jones blasting one to the other side. However, the Trojans responded with five unanswered. Queens would never recover as a service ace from Tatianna Grodecky ended the day.
Jessica Raines and Jones led the team in kills as they each tallied eight.
Megan Mancini tabbed 11 digs while
Sydney Kunz led the team in assists with 16.
The Trojans were led by Harris who found 14 kills in the match in addition to six blocks. Priscilla Irizarry took 37 assists for Anderson while Emily Conard tallied 16 digs.
The Royals will be at home again tomorrow as they host Newberry. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Curry Arena inside the Levine Center.
