Box Score Newberry, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball (5-13, 3-10 SAC) team dropped 63-44 to Newberry College (14-6, 8-5 SAC) on January 28, 2015. Although
Lacey Singletary took 14 points in the game, she would be the lone Royal to reach double-digits as Queens struggled to find the basket.
In addition to her night, Singletary grabbed six rebounds and three assists. She would also take a block in the game further securing her spot as 11th in the nation for blocks per game, averaging 2.65.
Nikki Gleason scooped two steals against the Wolves contributing to the Royals five for the night.
Samantha Creed and Emily Perry echoed 16 points to lead the floor. Haylee Lepaio was the only player to find a double-double in the game, contributing 11 points and 11 rebounds. She would assist with five additional baskets.
Two back-to-back three-pointers gave an early 6-2 lead the Wolves but it would be an equal opening for the Royals as they found eight unanswered points to give them their largest lead of 10-6. With an immediate turn of momentum, Newberry ran 19 points on Queens with Royals grabbing just one basket in the ten minutes from Singletary. Queens rattle off points towards the end of the half but the team broke trailing 28-18.
A 7-2 run would open the second half as the Wolves found a 15 point lead over Royals. Slowly chipping away at the deficit,
Erin Brundage found a three-pointer followed by
McKell Oliverio taking an open lane to the basket to bring the game to 35-25. Unable to hang-on, another run put the Wolves out into a 20 point lead with still ten minutes to play. Although Queens' battled taking 15 points in the last five minutes, the game would fall to Newberry.
Queens will return home on Saturday, January 31 as they host Tusculum inside of Curry Arena at 2 p.m.
