Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team traveled to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on a very talented Lincoln Memorial University team ranked second in the nation. The Royals fell 101-69 to the Railsplitters bringing their record to 9-7 on the year and 6-4 in South Atlantic Conference play. LMU remains undefeated on the year at 16-0 (10-0, SAC).
In their second straight loss, the Royals, who have shot above 50 percent from the floor for much of the season, were held to just 39.3 percent shooting this afternoon. Junior guard
Marquis Rankin led his team with a season-high 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Rankin also totaled three assists and three blocks. Junior forward
Sean Morgan record 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while
Jedarian Jackson added 10 points shooting 3-of-6 from the floor. Queens' leading scorer,
Rob Lewis, was held to just two points from the foul line.
The Royals, who fell to the second ranked Railsplitters by a score of 66-51 in their first meeting of the season, got off to a sluggish start today as LMU quickly put together a 17-3 lead not even five minutes into play. Before the end of the half, they would lead by as much as 25 points. Just before the break, a three-pointer from Jackson would cut LMU's lead to 22, 53-31.
Queens shot better in the second half of action posting a 45.2 field goal percentage compared to their 33.3 percent clip in the first. Unfortunately, the Railsplitters improved their shooting percentage as well connecting on 21-of-43 attempts. LMU would see its largest lead of the game over the Royals at 2:36 when Javier Gonzalez knocked down a three-pointer to put his team ahead 96-64.
The Royals met their match in the paint this afternoon getting outscored 40-26 in the lane. Queens was also outrebounded 52-27.
The Railsplitters saw six players reach double-figure scoring with Dorian Pinson's 18 points leading the way. Tim Pierce and Gerel Simmons totaled 15 points apiece, while Curtis McMillion scored 13 points. Lorenza Ross added 12 points, and Keenan Peterson chipped in with 10 points.
The Royals will look to bounce back on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. They will then return home to face Anderson University on Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
