Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (4-10, 1-5 SAC) traveled to Mars Hill (4-9, 3-3 SAC) on Saturday, September 27, 2014, to face the Lions where they fell short in the 3-0 match. Queens posted a second set rally but was unable to take hold of the match going 25-10, 28-26, 25-14.

Katie Schoenrock led the Royals with two new career highs as she posted 11 kills and seven digs.Â
Amanda Karan also broke a personal record taking home eight digs which lead the Royals in the category for the night.

The Royals had a total of 31 kills with an overall attacking percentage of .106. The team took hold of seven blocks with zero blocking errors in contribution to their 34 total digs. The Royals also grabbed two services aces and 29 assists (27 of which came from
Sydney Kunz).

Lauren Hochstetler led the Lions on the night with ten kills and one ace. She was followed by Rebecca Butler who tallied nine kills for the match. Christen Nicholson lead the Lions in digs taking hold of seven. Mars Hill combined for 37 digs, five blocks and nine aces. They also tallied a .244 attacking percentage during the match.

Mars Hill came out strong taking a 10-1 run to start off the match as Mary Kate Griffin tallied three aces in her nine serve run.
Meredith Jones would grab the first kill for the Royals to briefly stop the Lions however, two kills by Hochstetler would have Queens looking at a 12-2 deficit. The Royals would be able to take a slight advantage off a couple of Mars Hill errors and two kills from Schoenrock however the Lions would quickly find their rhythm again launching into a 5-0 run before
Katrina Kirby would be able to break the streak at 21-8. The Royals would only be able to find two more points before Mars Hill capped off the match at 25-10.

The Royals came out fresh to start set two, running off a 6-2 lead. Mars Hill would force their way back to within one (7-6) before the Royals capitalized on a couple of Mars Hill mistakes with
Alex Thompson and
Meredith Jones burying the ball onto the Lions side. Queens would continue to control the game going up by nine points (21-12). Mars Hill, however, would have a different plan posting an 11-1 tying run to square things up at 23-23. The two teams would see matching points through 26-26 before two kills would end the set 28-26 in favor of the Lions.

Unlike the first two sets, both teams came out in the third in an equally ensuing battle tying at 4-4. Schoenrock would take two kills to maintain a tied game at 6-6, however three errors would help to produce a 10-6 Lions lead. Queens would stay close but Mars Hill would again pick up momentum moving off a 14-11 Lions favor, taking hold of the next three points. Kirby and Jones would together take two back to back points before the Lions rattled off seven in a row to produce a 24-13 game. Schoenrock would give the Royals one more before a 25-14 victory would end the match.Â

Queens will come back home on Friday, October 3, 2014 to battle the Newberry Wolves (7-7, 4-4 SAC).
