CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte held its annual Awards Convocation this morning where men's soccer player Thiago Andrade was named Best Male Senior Student-Athlete for the 2013-2014 school year.
 
"Thiago has been a great ambassador for our program on and off the field," said Queens head coach Oliver Carias. "He always represents our program with pride and to the highest standards. He has been a great asset to our program and he has been a great leader for our current members of our team and prospective student-athletes."
 
Andrade wrapped up his two-year career as a Royal this past fall after helping Queens turn in one of its most successful seasons in school history. The Royals went 16-4 making it to the second round of the NCAA DII Men's Soccer Tournament. Prior to entering national tournament action, the Royals were named South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Champions in their first season as members of the league. Queens also won the 2013 Food Lion SAC Men's Soccer Championship.
 
During the regular season the Royals put together an 11-game win streak while getting ranked as high as 11^th in the nation. They would finish the year ranked 19^th with the 17^th best scoring offense in the country.
 
Andrade recorded 40 points to lead Queens with 15 goals and 10 assists during the year. The senior midfielder led the Royals in goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, game-winning goals, shots on goal, shots on goal per game and penalty kicks scored.
 
Andrade's efforts on the field helped the senior to earn recognition on the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-American, Daktronics All-Region, NCCSIA All-State and SAC All-Conference First Teams. He was also named SAC Tournament MVP and the NSCAA best attacking midfielder in the nation.
 
Off the field, Andrade was also active volunteering with the American Heart Association, the AC&M Group and Habitat for Humanity.
 
Andrade's efforts in the classroom didn't disappoint either as he has been a member of the Dean's List and is a Mortar Board member. He was also named to the NSCAA Men's Scholar All-Region and All-American teams.
 
Following graduation, Andrade will continue his soccer career professionally.
