Queens tennis ends regular season with pair of wins

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens Royals tennis hosted conference foe Anderson University today in the final match of the 2013-14 regular season. Both teams started strong and were able to take 5-1 victories from the visiting Trojans.
 
Men
 
The Royals entered the match feeling no ill effects of seven matches in ten days, and were able to snatch two wins in the doubles portion. Picking up wins were the pairings of Per-Erik Soler and Jules Athalis (9-8) and Andre Bafume and Ole-Jacob Meum (8-2).
 
Needing three points for the victory all of the top three players were able to come through with tough victories in three sets. Guaranteeing the win for the Royals were Soler (6-4, 3-6, 6-0), Athalis (6-4, 2-6, 6-0), and Bafume (6-4, 1-6, 6-3)
 
Following the match the Royals are 12-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play. They will face Anderson again on April 16 in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
 
Women
 
Needing just five points for the victory the Royals did the lion's share of the work in doubles as they picked up all three possible points. Earning victories for Queens were the pairings of Christina Rustscheff and Melissa Laing (8-3), Claire Hamilton and Jaclyn Rock (8-5), and Farina Rafiq and Paige Ernest (8-6).
 
The Royals were able to close out the match early in singles with two wins, which guaranteed them the third seed in the conference tournament. Adding to the win column for the Royals in singles were Rustscheff (7-6, 7-5), AND Rock (6-3, 6-0).
 
The Royals are 14-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play. They will face Mars Hill in the tournament on April 16.
