Tennis faces tough Tusculum side

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Both the men's and women's tennis teams travelled to Tusculum College yesterday with a five game conference winning streak under their belt. Facing a strong Tusculum squad the Royals ultimately were unsuccessful in keeping their streak alive with the men falling 8-1 and the women 5-4.

On the women's side the Royals jumped to an early 2-0 lead in doubles behind the strong play of their top two doubles teams. Picking up victories were the pairings of Christina Rustscheff and Melissa Laing (8-1), and Claire Hamilton and Jaclyn Rock (8-6).

Looking to keep the momentum going in the singles portion the match the Royals top two players Rustscheff (6-1, 6-1) and Laing (6-1, 2-6, 6-4) rolled off victories to put them within striking distance of a victory. Needing one point the Royals ultimately came up short, and fell by the score of 5-4.

Queens is now 13-3 on the season and 8-2 in the SAC.

On the men's side the Royals found themselves in a dog fight from the beginning and were unable to take any of the points in doubles. The Royals string of tough matches continued in singles as Ole-Jacob Meum (7-5, 1-6, 3-10) and Zachary Williams (4-6, 6-1, 8-10) lost tough three set matches. Picking up a victory for the Royals was Will Roberson who won 7-6, 6-4.

Queens is now 11-5 overall and 7-3 in SAC play. Both teams host Anderson today at 1:00 p.m.
