Men’s basketball takes out Tornados on Homecoming

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Clad in their home white uniforms, the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (9-7 (SAC),11-9) defeated Brevard College (3-13 (SAC), 3-17) in Curry Arena by a score of 84-74.
 
Leading the Royals in their Homecoming victory was senior guard Jarrett Stokes who scored 25 points. Senior forward Josh Clyburn added 19 points and six rebounds, while senior wing David Mason chipped in with 16 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman guard Grant Rasmussen scored 10 points and freshman forward Jared Hendryx had eight points and four blocks.
 
After getting off to a slow start, a quick five points from Rasmussen got the Royals going as they put together a 17-5 run to go ahead by 14 points, 27-13, with 11:42 to play. A layup from Mason would give Queens its largest lead, 42-22, with 2:45 to play. They headed into the locker room with a 45-27 advantage.
 
Brevard quickly cut Queens' lead to nine, 47-38, just under three minutes into second half action. A pair of dunks from Hendryx and Mason would breathe life back into Queens' offense while bringing the stands to their feet to reenergize the home team. At 15:09, a free-throw from Hendryx pushed Queen's lead back out to 14 and by the 9:28 mark they held a 66-46 edge.  
 
The Tornados had one final push in them closing the gap to eight with 2:20 to play, but a rebound put-back dunk from Clyburn would burst their bubble as the Royals went on to collect the 10-point win.
 
Queens outscored Brevard 46-32 in the paint. They also out-rebounded the Tornados 36-26 for 19 second chance points.
 
The Tornados were led by Darius Moose who scored 29 points. Miles Leathers scored 18 points and Trevon Shaw scored 15 points.
 
The Royals are back in Curry Arena against Wingate University on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
