CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte tennis program hosted former conference rivals Belmont Abbey in the opening game of the Spring today. Both teams jumped to early 3-0 leads, and the women finished 9-0 while the men earned an 8-1 victory.
Men
The men opened up there match 3-0 with all three doubles teams taking a point of the Crusaders. Taking home victories for the Royals were the pairings of
Per-Erik Soler and
Jules Athalis,
Andre Bafume and
Ole-Jacob Meum, and
Ignacio Casali and
Lucas Okita.
Five Royals picked up wins in the singles portion of the match with Casali, Bafume, and Meum winning in two sets. Freshmen Athalis earned a hard-fought victory in three sets, and fellow freshman
Zachary Williams also picked up a win for Queens.
Women
Much like the men the Royals picked up their first three doubles points with relative ease, and only gave up one game in doubles. Earning victories for the Royals were the pairs of
Christina Rustscheff and
Melissa Laing,
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton, and
Jessee Clauson and
Farina Rafiq.
The women continued their winning ways with Rustscheff, Laing, and Rock all winning the first round of matches in just two sets. Joining them with two set victories were Clauson, Hamilton and Ernest to give the Royals a clean sweep.
The Royals travel to Catawba College this Saturday.
