Singletary grabs double-double in loss to undefeated Livingstone

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (1-8, 0-5 SAC) went head-to-head with the undefeated Livingstone College Blue Bears (9-0, 0-0 CIAA) on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Livingstone would see the game in their favor taking a 73-54 win but not before Lacey Singletary fought her way into a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Nikki Gleason joined her teammate with double-digits putting another 11 points on the board for the Royals. Queens led the floor in blocks as Singletary denied three Blue Bear attempts with McKell Oliverio gathering the remaining blocked shot on the Royals side.  Oliverio would also have five rebounds and three assists for the game.

Led by Kyra Crosby, Livingstone had four players reach into double-digits. Crosby knocked down 21 points for the Blue Bears as teammates Amber Curtis and Precious Roberts equaled at 12 points. Alexis Fowler took 10 points for Livingstone.

The Royals started with command of the game reaching out to an early 5-0 lead. Queens held control until Crosby found room for a layup at 12:33 to move her team in front 8-7. Karleasha Thompson immediately answered with two free-throws to put the Royals back on top, however, it would be the last time the team saw the lead. The Blue Bears broke out with an 11-0 run that was only paused when Abby Pettit stepped to the free-throw line for a basket. Unfortunate for the Royals, the Blue Bear run would resume as Livingstone saw a 6-2 march in their favor. Finding their rhythm with five minutes remaining in the half, the Royals fought back from a 25-12 game as Sheridan Pressley sunk a long two-pointer to bring the game back to 10 points at 29-19. The two teams would head to the lockers with the Blue Bears grasping a 32-20 lead.

The Royals started the second half equaling Livingstone's advance as both team found ten quick points. Livingstone started to pull away reaching an 18 point lead, but Queens found space to bring the score back within nine, capping the drive with Singletary forcing her way through the paint. Queens continued to find the basket, however Livingstone was there to match them step-for-step. The game would be sealed after a late 10-0 run forced the Royals to face a 69-49 score with only 3:24 to play. Unable to overcome the gap, Livingstone took the game 73-54.

Set to face another tough nonconference opponent, Queens battles undefeated Claflin University (6-0, 0-0 SIAC) on Saturday, December 20, inside Curry Arena at 2pm.
