Royals fall to Wingate at home

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team welcomed the Bulldogs of Wingate University to Dickson Field this evening, falling 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference competition. The loss brings Queens' record to 6-7-2 on the year and 4-3-2 in the league. The Bulldogs, ranked eighth in the southeast region, improved to 8-2-3 on the year and 7-1-1 in the SAC.

Following a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs were able to put a point on the board in the 56th when a ball took an unlucky bounce past Queens keeper Emily Mager. Brooke Howell, who leads the league in goals, was able to get her boot on the ball and send it into an empty net for the score. It was her 12th goal of the season.

Wingate's second goal would come from Jade Montgomery, last week's NSCAA National Player of the Week, in the 84th minute. Montgomery collected a ball in the box, serviced from Mackenzie Cherniuk following a Queens foul, and rattled it into the net for the 2-0 lead.

The Royals are back at home on Saturday when they host Carson Newman College for Senior Night at 5 p.m.
