Royals get back on track with conference win over Bears

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After picking up two losses last week, the Royals collected a 69-58 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University in Curry Arena this evening. Queens University of Charlotte (8-7) improves to 6-5 in the South Atlantic Conference with the win, while the Bears (7-8) drop to 6-5.

The Bears jumped out to an 8-2 lead early forcing the Royals to take a quick thirty. Queens would come out of the timeout with a 14-0 run to take a 16-8 lead at 11:47. They would then stretch their lead out to as much as 17 following an 11-point spurt from senior guard Jarrett Stokes.

At the half, Queens held a 34-23 lead and had outrebounded the Bears 25-15.

The second half was much more evenly matched, but the Royals first half lead would prove to be advantageous in the end. By the halfway mark, the Bears had cut Queens' lead to four, 47-43, but the Royals were able to respond with a 5-0 push to extend their lead back out to nine, 52-43, with 8:33 to play.

Lenoir-Rhyne would get to within four of Queens once more with 6:45 to play, but a three-pointer from Joby Glymph seemed to knock the wind out of the visiting Bears as the Royals went up by 12, 60-48, with just under five to play.

The Royals were led by their back court on the offensive end this evening with Stokes scoring 23 points on 8-16 shooting from the floor. Glymph completed the game with 19 points on 6-9 shooting.
