Charlotte, NC. - The Royals squared off against the Limestone Saints in a Conference Carolinas matchup at Freedom Park. The men's team had a difficult day and eventually fell to a tough opponent 9-0. While the women had a tough battle all day long but were unable to overcome their opponents, and dropped the match by the score of 6-3.
Men's Recap
In doubles action the Royals came close but ultimately fell in all three matches. At number one doubles
Per-Erik Soler (Nice, France, Lycee du Parc Imperial) and
Ole-Jacob Meum (Stabekk, Norway, Wang Athletic Gymnasium) fell 5-8, while
Andre Bafume (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ateneo) and
Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario), and
Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton) and
Nizar Kuseybi (Greensboro, N.C., Northwest) both lost their matches by the score of 8-6.
In the singles round the Royals would continue to find it hard to get by Limestone. Bafume had the best chance at victory but fell in three sets. The other matches all were decided in straight sets. today's action brings the Royals record to 5-4 overall, 3-2 in Conference play. The men's next match is scheduled for Friday on the road at Erskine.
Women's Recap
The Royals number one doubles pairing of
Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen) and
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) continued their home dominance with an 8-0 victory. But it would be the only doubles point for the Royals though as the pairings of
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) and
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) lost 8-6, and
Farina Rafiq (Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, Cobequid Educational Centre) and
Paige Earnest (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) fell 9-7 in a close battle.
In singles play Rustscheff and Roberts cruised to straight set victories for the Royals. It would be the final two points on the day as Limestone took the final four singles all in straight sets for the final score of 6-3. The loss today sees the Royals record fall to 8-3 overall, 4-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The women's team will be back in action Friday when they host Converse College at 2 p.m.
