Mixed Results on Day One of Conference Tournament

Sumter, S.C - The Royals tennis teams went to Sumter for the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas tournament. The results were mixed as the women advanced to the semifinals, but the men's season came to an end.

Women's Tennis:

The Royals women's team advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday after defeating Barton 5-0. They will now face the winner of Limestone vs. North Greenville at noon on Saturday. That match was suspended due to rain with Limestone leading 4-3 with two matches left to be completed.

Men's Tennis:

The Royals season came to an end on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas tournament. The Royals were in a tight match but eventually fell to Pfeiffer by the score of 5-3.

In doubles action Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) and Andre Bafume (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ateneo) won their match for the only point of the doubles round for the Royals. Entering the singles matches the Royals trailed Pfeiffer 2-1.

In the single matches Ole-Jacob Meum (Stabekk, Norway, Wang Athletic Gymnasium) won a hard fought three set battle at the No. 2 singles 6-4 in the final set. Bafume concluded his season in style with a straight set victory. Unfortunately Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton)  Nizar Kuseybi (Greensboro, N.C., Northwest)  and Per-Erik Soler (Nice, France, Lycee du Parc Imperial) were unable to get victories leading to the final score of 5-3 in favor of Pfeiffer.
