Men’s basketball wins at Pfeiffer to close regular season

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (15-11) defeated Pfeiffer University (4-23) 80-62 tonight to claim the fifth place spot in Conference Carolinas heading into the conference tournament. The Royals complete the regular season with a 12-8 league record, while the Falcons end their season at 2-18 in Conference Carolinas.
 
Seniors Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) and Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) led the Royals with 18 and 16 points, respectively.  Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) followed the pair with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Stabler also led in rebounding with seven boards, while Tre McLean (Charleston, S.C., West Ashley) pulled down six.
 
After going back and forth with the Falcons, the Royals would take over control of the lead for good at 14:47 following a pair of free-throws from Sam Johnson (Leicester, N.C., Asheville Christian)  The Royals would put together a 19-6 run at the close of the half to head into the locker room leading 44-27.
 
The Royals kept their play up in the second half, extending their lead out to as much as 32, 78-46, before the game ended.
 
Queens shot 47.5 percent from the floor this evening. They posted an 88.9 free-throw shooting percentage as well following a second half where they shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. Twenty-one of the Royals' points were scored off of the Falcons' turnovers tonight.
 
Josh Humphrey led the Falcons with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while AJ Clark added 17 points.
 
Queens will travel to face Belmont Abbey College on March 4 at 7 p.m. for the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
