Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte (11-9) picked up a 68-55 win over Mount Olive College this evening at the Grady Cole Center bringing their league record to 8-6. The Trojans (10-9) drop to 7-6 in conference play. The win over the Trojans was the first for Queens since the 2010-11 season.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) led the Royals with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while
Trey Ervin (Kernersville, N.C., Mount Tabor) added 10 points on 4-of-4.
Tre McLean (Charleston, S.C., West Ashley) and
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) chipped in with eight points apiece. McLean also pulled down seven rebounds and totaled four steals, two blocks and two assists.
Queens would lead the entire first half shooting 56 percent from the floor. Glymph provided a huge spark on the offensive end scoring 10 first half points as the Royals' bench outscored the Trojans' bench 16-4. Queens would lead by as much as 14 points in the half.
Mount Olive cut Queens' lead to six at 13:01 in the second. An and-one play from Glymph on Queens' next possession would shift the momentum back to the home team as they built their lead out to 17 on a 20-9 run. The Trojans would only get as close as 11 to the Royals in the closing minutes.
After shooting 66.7 percent in the second half, the Royals finished the game with a 60.5 shooting percentage. The Royals also outscored the Trojans 46-18 in the paint. The Trojans were held to just 37.5 percent shooting.
Kendall Hargrove led the Trojans with 11 points, while Darrell Patterson was held to just seven points.
Queens returns home on Tuesday, February 12 against Belmont Abbey College at 7:30 p.m.
