Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (14-11) improved to 11-8 in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action this evening with a 55-50 win over Coker College (12-13). The Cobras drop to 9-10 with the loss.
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) connected on 6-of-13 attempts to lead the Royals with 16 points.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) added 11 points, while
Trey Ervin (Kernersville, N.C., Mount Tabor) chipped in with 10. Stabler also collected eight rebounds to lead Queens.
A 7-0 run midway through the first half helped the Royals create some space between themselves and the Cobras in tonight's tightly contested game. Coker would respond with an 8-0 spurt to take a one point lead, 20-19, with 5:35 on the clock. On Queens' next possession,
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) fouled going to the basket on, would knock down two free-throws to return the lead to the Royals. At the break, Queens led 27-23.
Queens led the entire second half, seeing their largest lead of the game at 5:16, 45-36. A 12-3 run by the Cobras soon followed, tying the game at 48-48 with 1:22 to play. In need of a bucket, the Royals continued to attack, and Queens' Ervin would come up huge with a rebound, put-back to put the Royals ahead by two, 50-48. Queens then connected on 5-of-6 from the foul line to secure their victory.
Errick Bethel led the Cobras with 11 points.
The Royals' final regular season game is Friday at Pfeiffer. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
