Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 76-63 win over North Greenville University this evening at the Grady Cole Center. The win brings Queens' record to 10-8 in the league and 13-11 on the year. The Crusaders now sit at 5-13 in Conference Carolinas and 10-14 overall.
The game began with a ceremony in honor of Queens' senior class made up of
Nate Blackburn (Burlington, N.C., Graham), Sam Johnson (Leicester, N.C., Asheville Christian), Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt), Maurice Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt), and
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield). Stabler would end the night leading all on the court with 23 points. Nichols was the next leading scorer for Queens with 13 points, while
Tre McLean (Charleston, S.C., West Ashley) added 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Johnson recorded eight points and nine rebounds. Stabler also pulled down nine boards.
With a starting lineup of all seniors, the Royals quickly jumped out to a 15-4 lead. The Crusaders would cut Queens' lead to five, but another push from the Royals extended their lead back out to 11. The Crusaders would eventually cut the Royals' lead to one at just under a minute before two free-throws from Stabler gave Queens a three-point advantage at the break.
A 16-4 run would give Queens the lift they needed to put the Crusaders away in the second half. The Royals saw their largest lead at 5:32 when
David Mason (Decatur, Ga., Chamblee) knocked down a jumper in the paint making the score 72-53.
The Royals shot 45.2 percent from the floor this evening compared to North Greenville's 35.5 percent. Queens also won the battle under the boards, 47-30.
Tyshawn Patterson and Keith Johnson led the Crusaders with 22 and 20, respectively.
The Royals are on the road against Coker on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
