Box Score WILSON, N.C. – Following a game-tying layup from
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) of Queens University of Charlotte, the Bulldogs would end the game outscoring the Royals 11-7, squeaking past Queens, 80-76. The loss on the road brings the Royals' overall record to 12-11, while they sit at 9-8 in Conference Carolinas. Barton (18-5) now holds a league best 13-4 record.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) led the Royals with a season-high 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting. The senior also pulled down nine rebounds to lead Queens. Glymph recorded 19 points, nine assists and four rebounds.
Tre McLean (Charleston, S.C., West Ashley) notched seven points, five rebounds and four assists, while
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) added eight points.
After falling behind by 17 points with 4:42 to play in the first, the Royals went on an 18-6 run to head into the break just down by five, 41-36.
The Royals kept the momentum in the second half tying the game up at 48-48 when Stabler knocked down a pair at the foul line at 13:27. McLean would give the Royals their first lead, 54-52, a few minutes later after turning a block on the defensive end into a fast-break opportunity.
Three ties and three lead changes would follow the midway point of the second in the heated conference match-up. After Glymph's layup that tied the game at 69-69 with 1:23 to play, the Bulldgos were able to sneak past the Royals by knocking down 9-of-9 free-throws.
The Royals finished the game with a 55.6 shooting percentage, and they outscored the Bulldogs 48-16 in the paint by the Bulldogs. Barton connected on 24-of-28 free-throws this evening.
Gerald Boston led Barton with 24 points. Chris Flemmings and Trey Lofton added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Royals will host North Greenville University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
