Nate Blackburn buried five-of-nine threes this afternoon to help lead the Royals past North Greenville University in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action. Queens University of Charlotte defeated the Crusaders 79-63 to improve their conference record to 6-5. The Crusaders drop to 3-7 in the league.
In addition to shooting 56 percent from behind the three-point line, Blackburn grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. Freshman
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) totaled 15 points, while senior
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) recorded 14 points and 10 boards for his fourth double-double of the season. Senior
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) scored 10 points and tallied nine assists.
The first half was a tight one, where both teams exchanged the lead on multiple occasions. The Royals held a four point lead at the two-minute mark, but would be outscored 6-0 to head into the break with a two-point deficit, 36-34.
A three-point bucket from Blackburn at 18:41 in the second gave the Royals the lead for good. The Royals would use a 14-0 run capped off by a jumper from Stabler to extend their lead to 17, 59-42. Queens would lead by as much as 18 before the final horn.
The Royals shot 44.1 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Crusaders 45-38. Queens also outscored North Greenville 34-20 in the paint. The Royals' bench scored 27 points this afternoon.
Keith Johnson recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders. Tyshawn Patterson also scored 20 points, while Chris Dean added 10 points.
Queens returns to action on Thursday, January 31 at the Grady Cole Center when they tip-off against Pfeiffer University at 7:30 p.m.
