Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team's comeback fell short this afternoon as they dropped a conference game to Lees-McRae College, 60-58. The Royals are now 4-3 in the league and 6-5 on the season. The Bobcats improve to 3-4 in Conference Carolinas and 5-5 overall.
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) led all on the court with 20 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Senior guard
Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) was one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 14 points and nine rebounds.
Following a steal and fast-break layup from Queens'
Melissa Thomas (Havelock, N.C., Havelock) that gave the Royals a 35-34 lead with 11:57 to play, the Bobcats went on a 22-10 run to build an 11 point lead with 2:19 to play. The Royals would answer, snatching the momentum in the final minutes to put together a 13-2 run to tie the game at 58-58 with four seconds on the clock. Lees-McRae' Tayler Collins would connect on a jumper at the buzzer to end things in the home team's favor.
The Bobcats had four players reach double-digit scoring. Layana De Souza led with 14 points, while Alyssa Munson scored 12. Kabrina Truesdale and Lauren Lewis each chipped in with 11 points. Collins' game-winner was her only field goal on the day.
The Royals will return home to take on Coker College on January 16 at 5:30 p.m.
