Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team took on regional rival Catawba College today in the final day of the Pfeiffer Falcons tournament. In a closely contested match, the Royals were able to come out on top by the score of 3-2. After dropping the first set the Royals traded blows with the Indians until making the final push to victory in the fifth set by the score of15-12.
“It came down to the fact that they never gave up,” said head coach
Lettie Wilkes. “The girls competed and followed the game plan throughout the game.”
Offensively the Royals the Royals were led by juniors
Anna Gibbs (Hickory) and
Ashlyn Dibrell (Lamar), who had 12 and 11 kills respectively. Freshman setter
McKenzie Martin (Stratford) continued to efficiently set up the Royals' offense, and ended the night with 38 assists.
Defensively Martin also led the Royals in digs with 17, and was joined in double digits by
Jocelyn Kellinger (Cave Spring),
Taylor Riley (E.C. Glass),
Brittney Barren (Blaine), and
Erin Mooney (Cardinal Mooney).
The Royals currently stand at 3-4 on the season, and is on the road to face Anderson University Tuesday, the 11
th of September
