Royals victorious over Bobcats

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team was able to end their two-game skid with a 1-0 win over Lees-McRae College this evening. Tonight's win also ends a four-game losing streak to the Bobcats for Queens. The Royals now sit at 1-1 in conference play (3-5 overall), while the Bobcats collect their first conference loss of the year and now sit at 2-1 in the league (3-3-1 overall).

In a first half full of shots fired by the Bobcats' offense, the Royals were able to make one of their five shots count with a goal in the 38th minute. Nicole Hoff (Cary, N.C., Cary) slid a pass to Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) on the far side, who was able to score the goal giving Queens a 1-0 lead heading into the break. The Bobcats led in shots at the half with 17, but were unable to connect on any thanks in large part to Queens' keeper, Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury), who turned away eight balls.

The Royals carried the momentum from their first half goal into the second holding the Bobcats to only eight shots, while taking seven of their own. Lees-McRae were unable to connect once again as Queens held on for the 1-0 victory.

The Royals were led by Foil and Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside), who each took two shots on goal. Seretis collected her third shutout win of the season after notching 11 saves.

Sam Arendt led Lees-McRae with three shots on goal.

Queens is back in action on Wednesday, September 26 when they travel to face Mount Olive College at 7:30 p.m.
