Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (15-7) improved to 10-1 in conference play this evening after defeating St. Andrews University 75-46 at the Grady Cole Center this evening. The Knights drop to 1-10 in the league and 6-17 overall.
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ), Queens' second all-time leading scorer, led the Royals with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Sam Johnson (Leicester, N.C., Asheville Christian) was the next leading scorer with a season-high 11 points.
David Mason (Decatur, Ga., Chamblee),
Preston Newlin (Graham, N.C., Graham) and
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) each notched eight points.
Queens attacked early going up 9-0 as the Knights didn't score a bucket until about six minutes into play. A number of short spurts would follow for the Royals as they built a 22-point lead heading into the break.
In the second, Bailey put Queens up 25 knocking down two from the foul line with 17:47 on the clock. The Knights began to cut Queens' margin knocking down shots from three-point range. A three-pointer from Chris Sumski would bring the Knights to within 12 with 12:15 to play, however the Royals responded with a 14-0 run closing the door on the Knights.
Maurice Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) gave Queens its largest lead of the night scoring the last basket of the game for the Royals from behind the three-point line with 36 ticks on the clock.
Sumski led the Knights with 17 points.
Queens is back in action on Saturday against King College who is undefeated in conference play at 11-0 sitting atop the West Division. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
